But even after he was released, it took another five years for Gail Miller’s real killer — Larry Fisher — to be charged in 1997.

Les Perreaux was a reporter with the Saskatoon StarPhoenix at the time and recalls the rumours that swirled about Fisher’s involvement in the murder long before Fisher was arrested. Reporters took it upon themselves to keep tabs on Fisher and put pressure on the police to keep looking into the case.

Perreaux joins True Crime Byline host Kathleen Goldhar to talk about covering Fisher’s trial and reflect on how the experience shook his trust in police and the justice system.
