The Jays (26-25) sit last in the American League East. They have lost nine of 11 and have gone 2-13 against AL East divisional rivals this season, including being swept by the Baltimore Orioles at home before losing three of four to the red-hot Rays.
Manager John Schneider has faced some criticism in recent weeks. He drew the ire of some fans for a mound visit during the Orioles series, when he was forced to remove starting pitcher Alek Manoah from the game after failing to realize pitching coach Pete Walker had already made a visit to the mound earlier in the inning. Teams are only permitted one such visit per inning.
